Union of Reform Judaism (URJ)
The Union for Reform Judaism (URJ) – the congregational arm of the Reform Movement in North America – helps to create and sustain vibrant Reform Jewish congregations wherever Reform Jews live. The synagogue is at the very center of Jewish life, transforming individual members into caring, committed Jews, inspiring them to live Jewish lives. The synagogue is the door through which our members encounter a larger entity, K’lal Yisrael, the people of Israel. The Union provides leadership and vision to Reform Jews on spiritual, ethical and political issues. It offers opportunities for individual growth and identity that congregations and individuals cannot provide by themselves, such as camps and Israel programs, study kallot, and national and regional biennials. As a member of the World Union for Progressive Judaism, the Union connects Reform Jews in North America with Liberal/Progressive/Reform congregations on every continent. The Union represents Reform member congregations and their members in communal organizations such as the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations and the Jewish Council for Public Affairs.OUR MISSION
The mission of the Union for Reform Judaism is to provide vision, leadership and programmatic support to Reform Jewish congregations and to perpetuate and advance Reform Judaism.Revised and adopted by the General Assembly in Atlanta in December 1995.The Reform Web site contains hundreds of “pages” of information that can be very helpful to congregational leaders, regional staff members, and others in our Movement. It also includes links to the Web sites of almost 50% of UAHC congregations.
