Verdi’s Requiem – NAT
May 2 @ 8:00 pm
The Board of Trustees of CityMusic Cleveland requests your support for a special performance of Verdi’s Requiem to commemorate Yom HaShoah, presented in collaboration with The Temple-Tifereth Israel. Please lend your voice of resistance to this city-wide production of the powerful requiem that was performed at Theresienstadt (Terezin) Concentration Camp 16 times in 1944.
Holocaust Remembrance Day encompasses the suffering of six million Jews who were systematically exterminated by the Nazi regime, as well as millions of prisoners at Theresienstadt who, under the direction of the brilliant young Czech conductor and fellow prisoner Rafael Schachter, learned the entire Requiem by rote from a single score, and performed it in defiance of the Nazi regime. This concert has special significance to Rabbi Jonathan Cohen, whose grandfather died at Theresienstadt.
