The Temple Museum presents: A Discussion about the Opioid Crisis with guests Sheryl Hirsh and Dr. Lisa Meek
December 2, 2018 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am
Please join activist Sheryl Hirsh and artist Dr. Lisa Meek as they discuss the national opioid crisis. In the exhibit currently in the Hartzmark Center, artist Lisa Meek’s piece, Dreamland, confronts the complex issues of the opioid epidemic. She writes, “The complicity of the pharmaceutical companies and doctors created this epidemic. Profit and failure to do due diligence has created opioid addicts who were once cheerleaders, mothers, construction workers – you name it. We told them it was safe.” Sheryl Hirsh became focused on the importance of educating others about the dangers of opioids after losing her daughter, Melissa, in May 2013. Through the Siegal Lifelong Learning Program, where she works, she has spearheaded an annual educational series to address the opiate crisis on the local and national levels.
