As part of our Yom HaShoah Commemoration, join us for the opening of a new Temple Museum exhibit:

Bearing Witness: A Selection From The Holocaust Wall Hangings By Judith Weinshall Liberman

In this exhibition, artist Judith Weinshall Liberman herself bears witness to the Holocaust. In a series of self-portraits, depicts herself in a Holocaust setting. She also portrays herself as vanishing, yet remaining clear-eyed, as she observes conditions under Nazi rule. While acknowledging that she and her beloved nanny, Batyah, who were fortunate to live in Israel during World War II, survived the Shoah, she raises the fundamental question: “Where was God during the Holocaust while His people suffered?”

This is the sixth of seven exhibitions of the 45 Holocaust Wall Hangings by Judith Weinshall Liberman that we have displayed in the Upper Hartzmark Gallery. She donated these powerful and gripping works of art to The Temple Museum of Jewish Art, Religion and Culture in 2002 with hopes and dreams of having these artworks preserved and used permanently for human rights education. We are so honored to share them with our
congregation and the community.
