The Temple Chai Lifers presents:
A Presentation by Anat Hoffman, Executive Director, Israel Religious Action Center (IRAC)
Pre-Registration required at bit.ly/HoffmanPre-Registration
Anat Hoffman will speak to us from Israel on the very timely topic: Jewish and Democratic: Threats and Challenges to Israel’s Democracy. Anat Hoffman is an activist who never shies away from reminding Israeli society of the need to uphold Jewish values envisioned in the Israeli Declaration of independence, the document that guarantees “freedom, justice and peace as envisaged by the prophets of Israel, ensuring complete equality of social and political rights to all Israel’s inhabitants irrespective of their religion, race or sex.”
In recent years, world democracies have been threatened by authoritarian-style leaders, often following financial and social crises. Although Israel strives to keep its democracy intact, its citizens must remain vigilant to the underlying past threats their country faces. attacks on the courts, and especially Israel’s supreme court, have increased. there are also more and more attacks – from the highest government offices – against Israeli journalists, and even against the attorney general’s office, and other safeguards of democracy.
During this program, Anat will examine the different threats and challenges to Israel’s democracy, including the supreme court override bill, which could remove all power from the supreme court. citizens throughout the world must awaken to the possibility of domestic threats to their own country and their own democracy.
The program is free, but pre-registration is required.
