LITERARY CLUB BOOK DISCUSSION SCHEDULE 2016-17

One Tuesday of the month at 1:00 p.m.

A series of thought-provoking discussions, led by a variety of presenters, which provide opportunities for social interaction and the pleasure of discussing together important and timely books of Jewish interest. Check out our Recommended Reading Lists for students in the Reading RoomCome visit The Lee and Dolores Hartzmark Library to check these books out.  There are unattended checkout slips for signing out materials if the librarian is not available.

Regular Hours:  The library will be staffed Sunday morning, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.  You are welcome to to "self serve" whenever the Temple building is open.

Be sure to check The Temple's on-line calendar regularly for more upcoming programs and events involving the Library and Adult Education.   The Literary Club and book reviews are scheduled throughout the year with the librarian, local reviewers, Temple staff, and Rabbis reviewing books and leading discussion groups.

LEE & DOLORES HARTZMARK LIBRARY

On November 16, 1997, The Temple - Tifereth Israel dedicated the new Lee & Dolores Hartzmark Library.This state-of-the-art facility offers a comprehensive Jewish resource for the entire congregation and community.Among the collection of over 15,000 materials are Judaic resources,award-winning fiction and non-fiction for children and adults, as well as a large selection of DVDs, audio books, music and periodicals. Loan period is 3 weeks (renewable if no reserves.) The library, which is staffed four days a week during the school year, is welcoming, beautiful, and user-friendly.

Located directly next to the library is The Hartzmark Room, a multi-purpose community room which is used for prayer, study, worship and family celebrations. With its three glass walls looking out into the woods that surround The Temple, Beachwood, this beautiful and functional room reflects an atmosphere of peacefulness and spirituality.

Highlights of the Library include a comprehensive collection of art books, an outstanding array of children's and young adult materials, resources for families, including parenting, Bar/Bat Mitzvah preparation materials and books on sensitive issues, such as adoption, divorce, and death, books about Israel and Zionism, an extensive collection of cookbooks, and a large variety of books to support the curriculum of the Temple Religious School and  Ganon Gil Pre-school. Important to the collection are books and materials written by Rabbi Abba Hillel Silver and his son, Daniel Jeremy Silver, and the history of The Temple, written by Ruth Dancyger.

The Library hosts several book discussion opportunities throughout the year.  The Literary Club, which meets at 1:00 on Tuesdays from October-June, offers adults the chance to participate in a stimulating moderated discussion of selected fiction and non-fiction books.
