Rabbi Richard A. Block

Rabbi Richard A. Block became Senior Rabbi of The Temple-Tifereth Israel on May 1, 2001. He was ordained and awarded a Master of Arts in Hebrew Letters at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in 1982, receiving awards for academic distinction, writing, and sermonic excellence. Upon ordination, he was chosen Rabbi of Greenwich Reform Synagogue in Riverside, Connecticut, where he was a founder of Jewish Community Services of Greenwich, served as President of the Greenwich Fellowship of Clergy, and received the humanitarian Award of the Council of Churches and Synagogues of Lower Fairfield County. Thereafter, Rabbi Block was Senior Rabbi of Congregation Beth Am in Los Altos Hills, California. During his tenure, he helped found the Mid-Peninsula Jewish Community Day School and received the Jewish Family and Children's Services of San Francisco “FAMMY” award.

Rabbi Block has been instrumental in creating several of The Temple's most exciting new programs, including Shabbaton, an innovative family learning alternative to Sunday Religious School, Rosh Chodesh, a women's study and spirituality group, and Rock My Soul Shabbat. He teaches young people and adults and is a warm, caring participant in our congregation's life cycle events. He is an active leader in Cleveland's Jewish and general communities. United Jewish Communities, the national umbrella group of Jewish Federations, honored him at its 2002 General Assembly for leadership and dedicated service to our community. Rabbi Block also serves as Financial Secretary of the Central Conference of American Rabbis and as Secretary and Chair of the Strategic Planning Committee of the Reform Movement¹s Pension Board.

As Senior Rabbi, Rabbi Block is The Temple's chief spiritual, educational, and programmatic leader. He strives continually to enhance the feeling of community within the congregation and to enable members of our congregational family to experience the meaning, inspiration, guidance, and comfort that Judaism can add to their lives. 

Rabbi Rosette Barron Haim 

Rabbi Rosette Barron Haim was ordained in 1988 by the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion and joined The Temple-Tifereth Israel in Cleveland, Ohio in July of 1988. As Associate Rabbi, her areas of involvement cover the spectrum of life cycle and holiday celebrations, and the supervision of various affiliate groups including The Temple Young Associates, The Temple Women's Association and The Temple youth groups.

The former Regional Outreach Director for the Union of American Hebrew Congregations, Northeast Lakes Council, Rabbi Haim maintains a commitment to generating a strong program for our Interfaith families and Jews by choice.

Involved in creative programs to enrich Reform Jewish life, Rabbi Haim has introduced egalitarian language to the pulpit, and raised the consciousness of the congregation to be more gender inclusive. Her approachable style makes her a good counselor for all ages.

A past president of the Greater Cleveland Board of Rabbis, she currently serves as a board member of the Jewish Community Federation of Cleveland, and The American Jewish Committee.In addition, she is a founding member of the Rabbinic Placement Committee Mentoring Program and a member of the Rabbinic Mentoring Institute of the Central Conference of American Rabbis.She also serves on the CCAR Liturgy and Reform Jewish Practices Committee.

Rabbi Haim previously served student - pulpits in Snellville, GA; Seminole, OK; and Hudson, OH. She is an alumni of Olin-Sang-Ruby Union Camp and of Brandeis Bardin Camp.

Married to Marshall Barron, they have one daughter and are Beachwood residents.

 

Rabbi Roger C. Klein

Rabbi Roger C. Klein was ordained by the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in 1971 where he also received a Master of Hebrew Letters degree.  While at HUC-JIR he won an award for the best sermon and was granted a fellowship for further graduate studies.  He earned a Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Chicago in 1980 with a dissertation on Plato.  In addition, Rabbi Klein studied for a year at The University of Tubingen in West Germany as an Alexander von Humboldt Fellow and at the Pardes Institute in Jerusalem.  He has served congregations in Indiana and Columbus, Ohio and has taught at the University of Kentucky, Wesleyan University in Connecticut, and at The Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in Jerusalem.  He has lectured widely at synagogues, churches and universities around the country on Bible, Jewish Thought and Philosophy, Christian-Jewish Relations, and Music.  In addition, he serves as Assistant Clinical Professor of Family Medicine at the School of Medicine at Case-Western Reserve University and is a member of the Advisory Committee of the Department of Bioethics at CWRU.  Rabbi Klein joined The Temple as a full-time rabbi in July 1999 after serving part-time for six years while teaching at the Laura and Alvin Siegal College of Judaic Studies.

Dedicated to lifelong learning, Rabbi Klein plays a pivotal role in The Temple¹s adult learning programs and conducts a well-attended Torah Study class every Shabbat morning.  In addition, he cultivates relationships with other religious and educational institutions in Cleveland and around the country.  He is intensely involved in the congregation¹s life-cycle events, works closely with individuals and families, and oversees The Temple Brotherhood, The Temple Seniors, The Adult Learning Committee, and The Temple's Caring Congregation Project.   

Cantor Kathryn Wolfe Sebo 

Cantor Kathryn Wolfe Sebo joined the clergy staff as fulltime cantor at The Temple - Tifereth Israel in July 1999. Cantor Sebo has served as a cantor since 1985 and studied with renowned cantor Dr. Max Wohlberg (of blessed memory) of the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York. She holds a bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Cincinnati's Conservatory of Music. In addition to her ongoing pulpit responsibilities, Cantor Sebo oversees the B'nai Mitzvah program and teaches in The Temple Religious School. She officiates in life cycle events and coordinates with the rabbis to develop and implement The Temple's musical programming and liturgical needs for worship services. Cantor Sebo can be heard on The Temple - Tifereth Israel's recordings, “Songs of Shabbat” and “Songs of The High Holy Days” Her serene voice and caring manner spiritually transcends through prayer. Cantor Kathy is married to Rommie Sebo. They are the proud parents of Zachary, Joshua, Rebecca and David.
